Album Review: Courts and Kings – All We Know (2014 EP)

Adelaide band Court and Kings leaped onto the music scene back in 2012 featuring in Triple J’s Unearthed High Competition followed by the release of their self-titled debut EP. They’re now back with follow-up EP All We Know, a super cute indie pop record that makes the sun shine on the darkest day.

Barely out of high school, Court and King’s youthfulness brings a refreshing taste of cute pop numbers that brings a smile to your face. Despite self-recording their record in the likes of different bedrooms and wardrobes, they have produced a quality record that reflects their musical talents.

The six-track EP is a combination of indie grooves that are similar to that of Matt and Kim and The Jungle Giants. Since their last EP, Greta Stark has joined the band, adding her sweet harmonies to their joyful songs and giving them a positive lift making the songs more sweeter and adorable in nature.

The first track “High Hopes” is super catchy and fun and will have you unable to resist getting up and dancing. The harmonies between Jack Holmes and Greta Stark add a real charm to their sound and the band’s delightful melodies are addictive and fun.

Next up is “Rocket Ships and Jet Packs” which has adorable guitar licks that support child-like lyrics about child fantasies of rocket ships and jet packs. “Wake” features softer xylophone and Stark’s soft dreamy vocals creates a beautiful slower dreamy number. The record finishes on an upbeat cheeky note with “I Know That You Know”.

These guys know how to make super cute pop numbers that encourage our hidden child-like selves to come out to sing and dance as well as bringing joy to our hearts. In our hectic lives, it’s music like this that reminds us to not take life too seriously and that we need to have moments of childish fun.

Review Score: 7.8 out of 10
