Surprise – Thom York dropped an album overnight

For those of you that didn’t stroll through your Facebook feed this morning with blurry eyes, you may have missed the small news that Thom Yorke dropped an album overnight. That’s right, he decided to surprise the world with 8 new tracks that is now available via a new version of bitorrent. His new album is titled Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes and it’s appropriately named as it is being delivered in a format that has never been tested before. Essentially how this new version of bittorrent works, is that an artist can bundle together a group of files and release them as an ‘album’. As stated on Radiohead’s website, “If it works well it could be an effective way of handing some control of internet commerce back to people who are creating the work. Enabling those people who make either music, video or any other kind of digital content to sell it themselves. Bypassing the self elected gate-keepers”. Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes is available via bittorrent for a cheap US$6.

  1. Wow, pretty crazy but cool way to release a piece of work, kinda assumed it wouldn’t be on Spotify, but it’s good to see that Thom Yorke’s not anti-tech, just manipulation of artists to make a cheap buck. Well intrigued to see how this works out, plus to have a listen to it as Eraser was awesome!
